Welcome to 2010 (part 2)

January 5th, 2010

Ok, so yesterday was a bit off topic. The whole holiday was a bit off topic. But there were some very important decisions made. First of all I will be doing another website with a partner. Yes, Mike will be moving in at the end of April and we are looking forward to a joint endeavour.
We had a lot of discussions as to products and dropshippers because we really want the website to fit into our plan. Travelling is high on our list and dropshippers will make that a whole lot easier. So now we are into the research stage.
And I can’t stress enough how much help Travis has been with our decision to go with Visible this time. We want to be part of a team. Travis helped to hook us up with Chris who will be our go to guy. We are both really excited about this new endeavour and know that it will be a huge success!
We are hoping that when we switch over to a premium blog that we will have the followers we know have been reading. Right now I can’t get you the new address as we are still working that out.
Hope to see you there soon!
Have an awesome day! ;)

Welcome to 2010

January 4th, 2010

First off I must apologize to all of those who have missed me for a couple of weeks. To say that it has been a very interesting period would be an understatement. And honestly I was too busy to blog. So today will be the catch up day.
I couldn’t really blog because the love of my life was up for the holidays. The time we get together is short and far between so when he changed around his schedule to be with me for 12 days, I was not about to give up one minute of it!
Christmas was great! It was a joint effort with Mike, Mik and I all taking part of the dinner and so there was very little stress and much visiting with my parents (who, by the way, are still talking about the dinner!).
Ladies, one word of advice, if you find a man who can cook and really enjoys it…..KEEP HIM! I cannot stress often enough what a joy it was to have the help this year. And it really made the cooking fun.
New Year’s we kept low key and stayed in. What did we have for dinner? Well…..steak, crab legs, scallops and shrimp. Guess who BBQed? It was wonderful!
And the best part of the holidays? I didn’t gain a pound! So we have stayed on track in that aspect too. Will continue tomorrow.
Have an awesome costume jewellery day!

Tick, tick……

December 21st, 2009

We are all starting to feel the pressure of the last minute preparations. What are you doing to stay sane? Have you done the cleaning, wrapping, cooking and whatever else needs to be done. Did you do it all by yourself?

Now you need to sit back and relax. I will bet that most of us didn’t delegate anything for fear that it won’t get done properly. Know what? Christmas is not about the perfect table, meal or house. It is about the company that you are keeping during the holidays. If you don’t have company coming then pick up the phone!

It is a time to connect with people, not to hide. Even if you don’t really feel like socializing, it is a time when everyone needs someone. If you don’t know what to do, then stop off at the local coffee house. Try smiling at the neighbour.

Most people don’t know, and don’t want to know your problems. Now is the time that you really need to take control. You are facing a New Year and it is up to you how you are going to face it. Don’t think you have it in you? You would be surprised what people have overcome.

Wishing you all of the best in the New Year.
I have all the confidence in the world that yours will be an awesome one.
Here is a smile from our face to yours!

Are you ready?

December 18th, 2009

Many people this year are getting very stressed because of the season. I find that people put too much pressure on each other to outdo each other. Who are you really trying to impress?

Focussing on what makes you happy is not self serving. I have found in the past that if I am not happy whatever I am trying to do does not turn out very well. We all need to take the time out for ourselves, especially now. Focussing on ourselves for a couple of hours not only helps to de-stress but also helps to calm those around us.

Planning the dinner this year? Delegate! No longer does anyone expect one person to do it all. With everyone doing something it also brings a sense of accomplishment to everyone….from the youngest who may make up place holders, to grandma who may have some lively conversation. And in the end everyone leaves happy.

Christmas should not be a time to impress people but rather a time to enjoy family and friends. So get out there and enjoy things!

Reflections

December 17th, 2009

As the year starts to draw to a close, we have a tendancy to look back and reflect on our past accomplishments. What we consider accomplishments can set the tone for the new year. Did we learn from a mistake we made? Well, that is an accomplishment in itself.

One thing that I learned this year is that running a small business is not always all it is cracked up to be. But to be honest, I don’t think that I could work from someone else’s schedule again. Yes, there is a lot of compromise involved. But it is also about the control that you have.

One of my big reflections is the direction that I wish the company to go. I believe that I would like to start on a healthier path. I want what is best for my clients, and as such, I have started to research different avenues that are available to me. And it is always good to have people that believe in me cheering me on. These are days of big decisions. I will be keeping everyone posted as to new goals for the site.

Until then, wishing everyone an awesome Christmas!

Overwhelmed yet?

December 16th, 2009

With Christmas being just over a week away many of us are really starting to feel the crunch. Last year I lucked out and we had Christmas away from the house so it wasn’t too much to do. This year however, I have been informed that Christmases will now be split between my sister and I.

Not a huge deal. Just trying to fit in time for the business while company is here can be a little challenging. But I do have a great team behind me. I have my daughter doing potatoes for dinner, and a cream pie, my sweety doing the turkey (on the BBQ no less!) and stuffing, and I am in charge of the rest. Not a big deal for the dinner.

I have two presents that I am still waiting on, but they have both been guarenteed by monday. The rest are wrapped and under the tree. The tree itself is still awaiting an angel but that will be here monday too. So I am really not too stressed. The biggest part is the cleaning, which is ongoing on the best of days with a teenager, 2 dogs and a cat.

But I am confident that it will go off without a hitch. Wishing you an awesome Christmas!

Christmas Jewellery

December 14th, 2009

The anticipation is mounting! Christmas is finally only a couple of weeks away. I myself wasn’t much for Christmas, until this year. now I can’t wait for Christmas morning to finally get here.

How one approaches the holidays is always a determination of how, in the most part, the will turn out. I did Christmas for my daughter. It was never about me. Even when I was married it was always about someone else. But this year is already proving to be different.

I have a sneaking suspicion that there may be more jewellery in my future. You will never catch me complaining about that! I was told on the weekend that everyone in my house is spoiled. Ok, but everyone has to work to be spoiled!

I am getting very excited to watch everyone’s face as they open their gifts this year. Big surprises are in store!

Wishing everyone a happy holiday season!

Chills and jewellery

December 11th, 2009

On days like this, at least here, we get up every morning to see how much snow we received the night before and whether or not we have to shovel. It can be a very challenging situation to try to stay optimistic in. And yet it can be so beautiful.

In order to keep my spirits up I tend to reach for something that reminds me of happier times; warmer times. I always feel that if I look my best then the attitude will follow. I feel better when I know that I have put in the effort.

There are always the special bracelets that remind me of special moments. And bracelets allow you to be reminded numerous times because you can always see them. I look at them and a smile creeps across my face. Good memories to warm my soul…..

Happiness lost?

December 10th, 2009

To say that there is no stress around Christmas is ridiculous. We are all, in some way or another, trying to live up to someone’s expectations. In order for us to be truly happy at this time of the year we need to re-evaluate what is important to us as individuals.

A small token is all it takes sometimes to ground us back into our reality. One thing that you have to remember at Christmas though is that everyone creates their own realities. Maybe you don’t live up to their expectations because you are just not thinking the same. You need to make yourself happy before you can make anyone else happy.

This is also the perfect time of the year to take an inventory on ourselves. What do we like? What do we want to change? We cannot expect anyone, spouses, children or significant others to change if they do not have someone to follow. You cannot say you are perfect, so how do your have the right to expect that from anyone else?

We all need to take some time out for ourselves. We have to stop doing what we ‘should’ be doing and do what we need to do. Take the time to look seriously at your life. Make yourself happy and then start to make a real difference in other’s lives.

Have an awesome day!

Creating memories

December 7th, 2009

This time of year it seems that everybody and their brother is expecting something you. And around the middle of December we are starting to feel the pull of six different directions. What we need right now is to create an environment that we feel safe in, one that allows us an escape from the stresses of Christmas.

Some have their Christmas shopping done, others are still thinking abour Christmas shopping. There are plenty of people that are willing to give their advice this late in the game but you do need to get organized. I find that when I am feeling extremely stressed that lists work really well.

I start with a main list. This will have EVERYTHING that needs to be accomplished by a certain time. It seems extremely daunting in the beginning, until I start breaking it down. This list is what I have to do. NOT what everyone else is expecting from me. It is not the best time to learn to say no, but if you want to keep your sanity, it is an important lesson to learn.

A less stressed Christmas will allow you to actually enjoy the holidays. And who doesn’t want that? The only other advice that I can suggest is to delegate. You do not have superpowers. You cannot be expected to do everything. Give those around you task lists too.

Christmas will prove to be a happier time all around!
